For employers and industry

Recruit, develop and formalise your artisan workforce

Corporate membership gives an employer access to a pool of artisans whose qualifications and competence have already been checked, a structured way to assess applicants before hiring, and a route to formally recognise the skill that is already inside the business.

01The case

What affiliation is worth to a business

Recruitment risk in the trades is expensive and difficult to price. Affiliation shifts the verification burden off your hiring manager and onto a body whose function is to do it properly.

01

A verified talent pipeline

Hire from a pool where qualification and competence have already been checked. Less recruitment risk, and a lower cost of a bad hire.

02

Pre-employment diagnostic assessment

For bigger companies: a diagnostic trade assessment of the artisans you are about to employ, with a safety competence gate, timed technical modules and a written report on each candidate before you appoint.

03

Workforce RPL

Have long serving but unqualified staff assessed and formally recognised. Morale rises, and so does the skills profile of the business.

04

Skills development alignment

Host employer, apprenticeship and workplace experience placements structured to support employment equity and skills development reporting.

05

In-house training recognition

Employer run technical training mapped to the APASA CPD framework so that it counts towards the professional standing of your employees.

06

Profile and industry voice

Recognition as an APASA corporate member, and a seat at the table on artisan policy, standards and regional skills planning.

02New service · For bigger companies

Pre-employment diagnostic assessment for artisans

Before you employ an artisan, the association assesses them for you and reports back. The diagnostic shows what a certificate on its own cannot: whether the person can work safely and do the job you are hiring for.

01

Safety competence gate

An applicant who cannot demonstrate safe working practice does not proceed to the technical modules, whatever their trade knowledge.

02

Timed technical modules

Trade specific modules covering measurement, fault finding, tool selection and method, marked against the same competency framework used for registration.

03

A written diagnostic report

A single report per candidate: pass or refer, module by module, with the areas that would need development if you employed them.

Register your company for the service, and send the artisans you are about to employ.

Recruitment risk falls when someone else has already checked the paperwork.
