Register your trade, and keep the record current

Membership is awarded by category against published competency criteria. It carries a designation you may use, a certificate that can be verified, and an annual development requirement that keeps it meaningful.

06Questions

Common questions

Is APASA a SAQA recognised professional body?

APASA is a registered non-profit company and is preparing its application to the South African Qualifications Authority for recognition as a professional body with registered professional designations. Membership taken up now is recorded against the published competency frameworks that form part of that application.

What does the designation actually give me?

A post-nominal you may use after your name, a verifiable digital certificate that an employer or client can check, and a place on the register of members. It is immediate, checkable proof that your trade standing has been reviewed by a third party.

I have the skill but no trade certificate. Can I join?

Yes. Apply as a Candidate Artisan. The association supports you through Recognition of Prior Learning, from preparing the evidence of your experience through to registering for the trade test.

How long does an application take?

Applications are acknowledged within two working days. A complete application with all supporting documents is normally reviewed within ten working days. Incomplete applications are held until the outstanding evidence is received.

How do I pay?

Every individual category is a flat R300 per year. Once your application has been reviewed you receive an invoice. Pay by EFT or a cash deposit into the APASA bank account, using the reference on the invoice, and send the proof of payment to the office. The banking details are on the membership page.

What is required to stay registered?

The annual fee, the annual CPD requirement for your category, and adherence to the APASA code of conduct. Members who fall short of the CPD requirement are given a remediation period before their standing is affected.
